The AI Substitution

0

This human had written a few 5 minute read articles on Artificial Intelligence and Humans in the different local newspapers. The thesis was simple, teachers and AI are competitors in the teaching profession.

Only a few of this works garnered attention and seldom does it ring bells of interactions from friends and fellow knowledge workers alike.

Several Search Engines can be consulted and that you can actually find in seconds a quick denial and AI Tool, denies outright the replacement of the Human Teachers by AI and Robots. Here is what one Artificial Intelligence reply:

The role of AI in education is expanding and evolving, but it’s unlikely that AI will completely replace human teachers in the near or distant future. While AI can offer personalized learning experiences, instant feedback, and efficient administrative support, there are certain aspects of teaching that only humans can provide. Here are a few reasons why human teachers remain irreplaceable:

If only we will take an AI’s word for it. Then we have to set the morbid thoughts aside and refuse to be bothered by the thoughts of being replaced.

Disruptive Technology

Samantha Rohn defines it as Disruptive technology is any new tool that changes how people and businesses think about something. Generally, disruptive technology emerges as a new approach to an existing activity (eCommerce, ridesharing) or as a completely new invention that entirely transforms how people do things (television, the Internet). Because of this, disruptive technology often leads to the creation of new products and industries, which displace existing ones.

My late Father was a mailman, when he retires in 2016, he was on an organization that was lonely, less frequented and out of relevance. Snail Mail was not anymore romantic the message reaches expiry dates and new innovations like Cellular Phone and Email, was lower in costs, almost free yet its faster, real time and reliable.

In the last 50 years, many of the technologies were replaced by a smarter, better versions yet it also starved and kill the incumbent with the drastic and even slow but sure transition of low tech to high tech metamorphosis.

• Typewriters to Computers
• Ordinary Camera to Digital Camera to Cellular Phone
• Physical Media to Digital Media
• Video Rental to Live Streaming
• Ordinary Mail to SMS/ Email

The teachers must realize that in their heydays the one replaced cash cow for companies that turned awry in such a short period.

Lacking Emotional Intelligence, Ethical Guidance and Empathy the AI will never be as good as Humans but in some aspects of the economy, Humans are being robbed by the AI for possible employment because AI or Robots can do the task without paid leave, all for several days at times. At a lower operating cost and less friction and conflict.

Will human teachers be replaced by AI Robots or Program; I am sure it will. The certainty that it will replace us Human Teachers or at the very least, they will be laid-off.
So how soon, only heavens know!

Be poor to be truly rich

0

THIS is what Christ proposed to his disciples, and now to us. We need to be poor, to be detached from earthly things, so we can be filled with what truly enriches us. (cfr. Mk 10,28-31)

“Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come,” he said.

We have to understand well these words which at first sight can plunge us to disbelief, since we all know that we need brothers, sisters, parents, children, friends and everyone else in our life. We need houses and money and other material resources. God himself said that we have to love everyone, including our enemies.

He also wants us to “subdue the earth.” (cfr. Gen 1,28) We certainly need to be immersed in the things of the world if we want to subdue the earth. This can only mean that we have to deal with the things of the world, not to stay away from them.

What Christ’s words mean is that nothing and no one in the world, even those who are close to us, should replace our exclusive love for God that would actually give us the proper and inclusive love for everyone and everything in the world.

It’s when we fail to begin and end with God and to be with him in the whole course of life that we would put ourselves in danger, and of failing the gain God himself and everyone and everything in our life.

For us to live by this indication of Christ, we certainly need to continually rectify our intentions as we go through all our temporal and earthly affairs. We know how easily we can be trapped in the things of the world and forget the real way of dealing with them.

We easily think that by forgetting God or putting him aside in our earthly affairs, and then giving our full attention on the technical aspects of our affairs, we would be achieving our true fulfillment, when in fact, it would be a real loss. Such attitude toward our earthly affairs can only show that we are attached to the things of this world and that God is actually not important to us, he who is our “all in all,” as he should be.

How then should our attitude be toward the things of the world? It is to love them the way God loves them.

We have to embody that attitude articulated in the gospel of St. John: “For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son; that whosoever believes in him, may not perish, but may have life everlasting.” (Jn 3,16)

It’s a love that carries out what God, its creator, commanded our first parents to do: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it…” (Gen 1,28) “To subdue the earth” does not only mean to master and dominate it, or merely to make use and take advantage of it, although all these go into that divine command. In fact, we have to develop as much as possible the good potentials of the world.

Our worldly affairs should be motivated only by love for God, and with that love, we can love everybody and everything else properly! It’s that love which can gain us a hundredfold of what Christ promised us and of eternal life itself. This is how we can be poor to be truly rich.

TACLOBAN CITY– About 32 senior citizens from Tacloban City received for the first time their cash gift from the National Commission on Senior Citizens Regional Office 8 – some received their money with tears of joy, others with calm and poise.

Flordeliza Lugnasin, 80, who has been living alone for many years now in her humble home in Utap village, Tacloban City, was tearful when she opened her envelope containing her assistance in cash together with a certificate, a token for her resilience and enduring legacy and support for her well-being.

“This is a big help to senior citizens like me who live alone. This amount can at least sustain my medication for the next few months,” Lugnasin, who received P10,000, said during the ceremony on Feb. 26.

Another senior citizen beneficiary, Soledad Medalla, 95, who was the oldest among the 32 recipients said the assistance has been long awaited. She vowed to make good of her health so she may be able to reach her centennial year, qualifying her for the P100,000 cash gift under the Centenarian Act.

The NCSC conducted a nationwide cash gift distribution Wednesday marking the first year since the Expanded Centenarians Act of 2024 came into law.

In Tacloban, the inaugural cash gift distribution also came with a Serbisyo Caravan where the senior citizens availed of services from participating agencies such as the Department of Agriculture, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Information and Communication Technology, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Pursuant to said law, R.A. No. 11982, Filipinos, reaching the “milestone ages” of 80, 85, 90 and 95, whether residing in the country or abroad, are eligible to receive the P10,000 cash gift, and P100,000 upon reaching 100 years old, expanding the benefits, formerly limited to centenarians.

According to the United Nations, from 2025 to 2030, elderly Filipinos aged 60 and above are expected to make up at least 10 percent of the country’s total population, which makes the Philippines an aging society.

In Eastern Visayas, older persons comprise 6.5 percent of the total population which is considered as nearing the threshold for an ageing population, a demographic shift that a government should be prepared for.
