0

Globe Stores and Easy Hubs across the country are ready to provide assistance to customers who may need help in registering their SIMs as the April 26, 2023 deadline approaches.

Cleo Santos, Head of Globe Channel Marketing Group, said 147 Globe stores and 25 Easy Hubs in various locations around the country are open to mobile and broadband customers who would need help to have their SIMs registered in compliance with the SIM Registration Act.

“We are pleased to see a steady increase in registered subscribers. However, we understand that some of our customers may still need assistance. So in our commitment to provide excellent service, our Globe Stores and Globe Easy Hubs are open to assist customers who need help for SIM registration,” said Cleo Santos, Head of Globe Channel Management Group.

This effort is on top of 24/7 registration via Globe’s SIM registration website https://new.globe.com.ph/simreg, and the GlobeOne app. Globe earlier launched National SIM Registration Week, an initiative to roll out over 500 SIM Registration Assistance Desks across the country, including remote areas and places known to have high concentration of users of basic phones.

Globe has so far logged 23.48 million SIM registrations as of April 2. An estimated 86.7 million SIM are under the Globe network.

The SIM Registration Act aims to help curb scams and cybercrime by requiring all local SIMs to be registered by April 26 this year. Unregistered SIMs will be deactivated after the deadline.

To facilitate the registration of more customers, especially in remote areas, Globe has participated in several rounds of on-ground SIM Registration Assistance led by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). U.S. partners with Knowledge Channel to improve children’s literacy through television and radio

0

The United States government, RTI International, and the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) signed a new partnership to improve the reading skills of kindergarten to grade three students through radio and television-based learning resources.

Starting March 13, KCFI will regularly broadcast existing learning materials co-developed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Advancing Basic Education in the Philippines (ABC+) program implementing partner RTI International, and the Department of Education (DepEd). These programs were designed to instill genuine love for reading in young children and help them master the four macro literacy skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

This partnership addresses the continuing gaps in education in the Philippines and ensures that children have access to quality education that will build their literacy skills for lifelong learning. It also supports educational innovations through the creation and promotion of multimedia learning resources for young children.

“We thank KCFI for its interest in our initiative and desire to promote learning and access to education, particularly for the most vulnerable and marginalized children,” USAID Philippines Deputy Mission Director Rebekah Eubanks said. “As your enduring friend, partner, and ally, the U.S. government, through USAID, will continue to forge and strengthen partnerships with the private sector to expand learning opportunities for children so that they can grow up to reach their full potential and contribute to the country’s growth.”

“We are confident that this new partnership between ABC+ and KCFI will not only be beneficial to our respective organizations, but more importantly, to the students, teachers, and communities that we serve,” KCFI President and Executive Director Rina Lopez said. “By bringing the video lessons to more audiences all over the country, we will be making a meaningful contribution to the efforts of schools, teachers, and parents all over the country who are working hard to enrich the learning of their students and children.”

“It is our fervent hope that this work will encourage practitioners and teachers to be knowledgeable, skillful, and insightful as we all work together to the care and education of young children,” DepEd Finance Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said. “The DepEd wholeheartedly believes in this collaboration, and we are all confident that we will contribute to the commitments of our MATATAG Agenda, a whole pro-creation approach which aims to support our learners—Bansang Makabata—to become productive and nation loving Filipinos—Batang Makabansa.” (PR)

Catarman N. Samar– residents of Brgy. Galutan and Doña Pulqueria in Catarman, Northern Samar will no longer endure the danger of crossing the Catarman River especially during rainy season with the completion of the 175 linear meter hanging bridge implemented by DPWH-Northern Samar First DEO.

According to District Engineer Mario D. Villena, the total cost of the of the whole bridge project is Php 6.83 million and was constructed to put an end to the ordeal of the locals just to go to the other side of Catarman River.

The construction of the hanging bridge involves two phases. Phase I, amounting to Php 1.97-million involves the construction of hanging Bridge including portals, stairs with railings, grouted riprap and revetment while the Php 4.86 million Phase 2 includes the construction of 175 liner meter Suspended Bridge. Other works comprises the installation of Main Cable (48mm 6×25 IWRC), 12 mm IWRC Suspender connected to Wood Planks, Cyclone Wire, Stainless Steel Railings and Masonry Painting for Existing Column.
Students from Doña Pulqueria and its neighboring sitios who attend classes at Galutan National High School, located on the other side of the river, now benefit from the new hanging bridge.

In an interview, Siara D. Alburo, a grade 12 student, expressed her happiness with the completion of the said project as they will no longer use boat “Sampan” in crossing the river just to access education.

District Engineer Mario D. Villena underscored that the newly-constructed hanging bridge will provide a safer and shorter route of student in going to their school. Locals can now experience ease of travel to these remote areas.

Holy angel protects believers (Last of the Part III series)

    0

The article, “Angels- God’s Spirit Messengers” published in the Watchtower Magazine issue of January 15, 1961, page 56, read: “And then there are the great body of angels or spirit messengers. We are not to think of these merely as errand boys but as agents and deputies, not only serving as a means of communication but also carrying out God’s purpose, be it the protection and deliverance of his people or the destruction of the wicked.”

Do you know the name of the chief of the rebels against Jehovah God? His name is Beelzebub, Satan the Devil, as could be read in Matthew 12:24, “At hearing this, the Pharisees said: ‘This fellow does not expel the demons except by means of Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.’

Do you know the angels were keenly interested in what is going on upon the earth, for they are said to rejoice at the repentance of a sinner and to watch the “theatrical spectacle” furnished by Christians? The 1st Peter 1:12, reads: “It was revealed to them that they were ministering, not to themselves, but to you, regarding what has now been announced to you by those who declared the good news to you with holy spirit sent from heaven. Into these very things, angels are desiring to peer.”

Therefore, the angels are watching every one of us if we repent of our sins. The most comforting thought is written in Hebrews 1:14, “Are they not all spirits for public service, sent forth to minister for those who are going to inherit salvation?”

We must consider that not necessarily each one of us has an angel assigned to watch; but that one angel is assigned to several numbers of God’s servants on earth, as Jesus Christ while on earth stated in Matthew 18:10, “Do not despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven always have access to my Father who is in heaven.”

History tells us what happened to the Assyrians written in 2 Kings 19:35, “On that very night the angel of Jehovah went out and struck down 185,000 men in the camp of the Assyrians. When people rose up early in the morning, they saw all the dead bodies.”
One angel killed 185,000 men in the camp of the Assyrians. We may not have a personal angel guiding or protecting us because they are likewise powerful that flying in midheaven could see Jehovah’s people.

As explained by the Watchtower magazine: “Yes, ‘the angel of Jehovah is encamping all around those fearing him and he rescues them.’ (Psalm 34:7; 91:11) ‘He will give his own angels a command concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.” (Acts 5:19; 12:7; 27:23) True, angels do not appear visibly the way they did to the apostles to deliver them from prison and the way one appeared to Paul when he was shipwrecked. But we may rest assured that, regardless of the odds against us, regardless of how many foes press in upon us, had we a spiritual vision we could see surrounding and protecting armies of God’s spirit messengers, even as they protectingly surrounded the prophet Elisha and his servant when the king of Syria dispatched a heavy military force, including horses and war chariots, to capture Elisha. (2 Kings 6:13-17)”

The Watchtower article concluded: “Truly, what God’s Word has to say about his spirit messengers, the angels, is both enlightening and faith-strengthening.” So, the angels I believe will blind the hired killer until he realized he will not be doing good for his family following the order of the mastermind. I pray for both of them to think seventy-seven times, less their fate be like the killers and mastermind of the death of Governor Degamo.
Do not misinterpret that I want to die. No sane person wants to die like the would-be killer and the mastermind, both are also afraid to die. Even the so-called bravest person on earth would not want to die.

PSMA versus EPAP in tug-of-war over molasses importation

Molasses, a by-product of extracting sugar from sugarcane, is used by distilleries to produce alcohol and ethanol. The importation of this by-product has drawn the CONS and PROS among business groups particularly, the Philippine Sugar Millers Association (PSMA) and the Ethanol Producers Association of the Philippines (EPAP), respectively.

The opposing or CONS (PSMA) contends that there is sufficient supply of the raw material (molasses) locally. The PSMA says that “there is no need to import molasses for bioethanol. Local molasses production is on the upswing and our demand has been soft and slow. . . and molasses inventories are building up that there has been an overflow in molasses tanks in some mills in recent months. And that, according to the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), as on January 2023, molasses production reached 471,046 .15 metric tons (MT) higher by 3.38 percent from December 2022.

Also, In 2022 the Philippines imported molasses for potable alcohol and animal feeds, up by 80 percent from 2021. In January 2023 molasses importation reached 80 percent to 88,7021 MT.

Meanwhile, EPAP earlier said that the ethanol industry needs 1.6 million of molasses to fully support their operations, however, SRA only reports a maximum o 1.1million MT.

Furthermore, and based on the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) report expressed optimism that the Philippines will accelerate its total fuel ethanol imports by 33 percent to 330 million liters this year to fill in the gap due to the expected increase in consumption.

    MY COMMENT:
The issue on whether or not the country need to import molasses to keep the Bioethanol Industry alive, needs immediate action by the present political leadership. Personally, I cannot the logic of importing molasses if the PSMA is saying that there is enough molasses produce kept in tanks to meet the operational needs of the EPEP, but bluntly denied by EPAP. Just which group is telling the naked truth?

    When bad things happen

    0
    FR. ROY CIMAGALA
    FR. ROY CIMAGALA

WE should be ready when bad things happen in our life. In fact, we should expect the worst in life, like when death, which cannot be solved anymore, would finally come to us. Before death, we should be ready when cases of severe misfortune or harsh crisis of some kind come our way.

We are somehow reminded of this need for readiness in the gospel reading of Wednesday of Holy Week. (cfr. Mt 26,14-25) There Christ was talking about his impending betrayal by no less than one of his apostles and did not run away from it since he knew it was his time to consummate his redemptive mission.

We should try our best to have the mind of Christ when bad things happen to us. If we still can have time and find some solutions to these problems and difficulties, then by all means, let’s do it. But if there is no more time or that solutions are hard to find or, worse, when no more solutions can be found, let’s see to it that we do not fail to go through these situations always with Christ.

Of course, when times are good, we should always enjoy them with Christ too. Otherwise, those good things can easily turn bad for us. In fact, there should be no time, no circumstance, no situation in our life when we can distance ourselves from Christ.

We therefore need to develop a certain discipline where Christ should always be in our mind and heart whatever the circumstance or situation is. We cannot deny that we tend to forget Christ in certain situations and prefer to deal with them simply with our own human powers. Obviously, we have to make full use of our human powers and faculties, but we should never fail to depend on God, on Christ, first of all!

We should always go to Christ who is “the way, the truth and the life” since he surely is the one who will show us how to handle the difficulties we encounter in life. In all our affairs and situations in life, we should always go to God, to Christ, to ask for his help and guidance, and to trust his ways and his providence, even if our prayers and petitions appears unanswered, if not, contradicted.

This should be the attitude to have. It’s an attitude that can only indicate our unconditional faith and love for God who is always in control of things, and at the same time can also leave us in peace and joy even at the worst of the possibilities.

Remember the Book of Ecclesiastes where it says that for everything there is a season, “a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal…” But everything is under God’s control, and even if we are capable of eternity, we just the same “cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” (3,1ff) We just have to trust him.

We have to follow the example of the many characters in the gospel who, feeling helpless in the many predicaments they were in, earnestly rushed to Christ for some succor. They went to him unafraid and unashamed and they got what they wanted.
