ORMOC CITY-A village chairwoman who is allegedly operating an illegal online sabong was arrested by police in Tacloban City on Friday (May 12) at about 3:25 pm.

Arrested was Alice Chua, barangay chairwoman of Barangay 38(La Conga). Also arrested by the police was a bettor, Christopher Busa, a resident of Brgy.36, Sabag District.

Major Joselito Amistoso, chief of police of the Tacloban City police station 2, in an interview, disclosed that operatives from their station together from the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 8 were conducting an anti-illegal gambling operation in their area that resulted in the arrest of the two suspects.

He said that the said operation involved the use of an undercover agent who posed as a bettor who was able to place a bet on the suspect.

Confiscated during the operation were two computer sets with coin slot peso nets used in the illegal activity.

Major Amistoso explained that the two computers were recovered from the house of Chua.
Charges of violation of PD 1602, which penalizes illegal gambling, and RA 10175, the cybercrime law, were filed against the two suspects who are now detained at the locked-up cell of Police Station 2 in Abucay district.
