The Strategic Activities for Nortehanon Schools to Achieve “All Readers” (SANA All Readers) program being implemented by the Department of Education (DepEd) Northern Samar Division, in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Northern Samar as part of the Learning Recovery Program (LRP), has started to achieve positive changes, Dr. Gaudencio Aljibe Jr., OIC Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Northern Samar, reported during the recently-held Provincial School Board Meeting.

In his report, Dr. Aljibe highlighted the significant decrease in the number of non-readers in the province, based on the Informal Reading Inventory (PHIL-IRI).
For Filipino PHIL-IRI results for SY 2022-2023, the number of non-readers decreased by 2,920 (from 3,272 to 352), while the number of independent readers increased by 12,099 (from 13,906 to 26,005).

Meanwhile, for English PHIL-IRI results for SY 2022-2023, the number of non-readers decreased by 2,029 (from 2,350 to 321), while the number of independent readers increased by 5,986 (from 11,993 to 17,979).

The program, aimed to address learning losses as a result of the COVID pandemic, envisions to make every Nortehanon child a reader (Kada Bata sa Norte Nakakabasa).
The Provincial Government, in support to this goal, employed Learning Support Aides (LSAs) who were deployed in different schools in the province to assist and guide learners in reading, writing and learning number literacy.

Dr. Aljibe presented the SANA “All Reader” Program accomplishment to the Provincial School Board (PSB) in its regular meeting on February 7, 2024 presided by Vice Governor Clarence Dato.

The PSB meets every month to tackle and resolve concerns related to the education of Nortehanon children and youth.

As chair of the PSB, Governor Edwin Ongchuan ensures Provincial Government support to education by allocating resources for the development of children children and youth through the Special Education Fund. (MDB/NLO/act)
