ORMOC CITY-A provincial jail guard assigned at a sub-provincial jail in Calubian, Leyte was gunned down by unidentified suspects killing him instantly at about 5: 30 pm on Sunday (Sept.10) in Brgy. Bawod, San Isidro, also in Leyte.
The local police said that prior to the incident, the victim, Virgillio Barda, 63, was riding his motorcycle with a back rider headed to the town proper coming from a cockpit arena.
While traversing the highway, two unidentified men armed with an undetermined caliber of firearm suddenly shot the victim hitting on his head and different parts of his body causing him to fall to the ground.
The victim’s companion, Lando Soson, was unharmed.
The suspects fled the crime scene heading towards an unknown direction.
The victim was immediately brought to Calubian Eastern Visayas Hospital but was pronounced dead by his attending doctor.
The local police led by San Isidro’s chief of police, Major Reymond Quinagutan, has conducted a hot pursuit operation against the suspects.
