JIPAPAD, Eastern Samar – A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the concreting of a 1.3-kilometer portion of the remaining 3.735-kilometer stretch of the Jipapad-Las Navas road in this town on Monday (July 1).

House Minority Floor Leader and 4Ps party-list Rep. Marcelino ‘Nonoy’ Libanan led the event along with Jipapad Mayor Benjamin Ver and Eastern Samar Vice-Governor Maricor Sison-Goteesan, among others.

The ceremony was also attended by local chief executives from other municipalities in Eastern Samar province and security officials, and witnessed by the residents of Jipapad.
This road project, with a length of 24.343 kilometers on the Eastern Samar side, will connect to Northern Samar through the Las Navas-Catubig road, which has a total length of 53.606 kilometers.

A budget of P100 million, facilitated by Rep.Libanan was allocated for the concreting of the 1.3-kilometer portion and also involves slope protection and drainage works.

Future budget allocations for the project will include the construction of a bridge connecting Eastern Samar to Northern Samar.

The project aims to provide safe and reliable access to the remote villages of Jipapad and Las Navas, promoting economic development and improving the lives of the affected communities.

Jimboy Panustan, 34, a farmer, is one of the individuals excited about the completion of the road project linking Jipapad to Las Navas.

A native of Jipapad, he moved to Las Navas seven years ago after marrying a resident there. Once or twice a week, Panustan treks from his home in the interior village of San Francisco in Las Navas to San Juan village in Jipapad to tend to his farm and carabao.
He usually leaves San Francisco at 9 am and arrives in San Roque Village around 3 pm, or almost half-day of walking.

“Maupay ini nga gin papaklasada na, kay basi diri na kami magbinaktas,” Panustan said in Waray as he trekked to Jipapad town with his wife’s nephew.

“Diri na gihapun namun pagtitinukduhon an amun mga produkto nga igbaraligya kun may kalsada na kay pwede naman itun ig sakay,” he added.

Panustan believes that the road will also help families send their children to school, preventing situations like his, where he only finished Grade Six.

In his message during the groundbreaking ceremony, Mayor Ver said that the completion of the road project will spur economic development, making their town a major transportation hub for those traveling to Eastern Samar and Luzon.

“I am thankful on behalf of the people of Jipapad because this is the realization of our dream that will benefit future generations,” Mayor Ver said.

The construction of the road linking the interior towns of Eastern Samar and Northern Samar, including far-flung villages, offers new hope for communities, opening opportunities for socio-economic development, health, education, and eco-tourism.

For the success of this project, Lt. Col. Rudyard Garcia, the commanding officer of the 52nd IB, urged community support to ensure its immediate completion.

The project has faced setbacks in previous years, particularly on the Northern Samar side, due to several attacks by the New People’s Army, which burned heavy equipment used in the construction.

“Protecting this project is not just the role of the national, provincial, or municipal government. It is not solely the responsibility of the military, police force, or the contractor but also requires the cooperation of the community to ensure that this road will be completed on time to achieve your dreams,” Lt. Col. Garcia said.

Currently, the project is 74.74 percent completed, with a total budget cost of P2.704 billion.
Completion of this project will reduce travel time from Borongan City to the Allen port from five hours to approximately three hours.

It will also help promote the tourism potentials of Jipapad and Las Navas, which have untapped and still unexplored tourist destinations that need development and promotion. (ROEL T. AMAZONA)

TACLOBAN CITY – The Police Regional Office 8, under the leadership of B/Gen.Reynaldo Pawid hosted a mass wedding ceremony dubbed “Kasalang Pulis sa Rehiyon Otso” for 50 couples at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Sto. Niño, this city, on June 29, 2024.

The 50 couples included police non-commissioned officers (PNCOs), three non-uniformed personnel (NUP), one member of the Philippine Army, 46 civilians entered into matrimony during a wedding rite officiated by Rev. Fr. Major Rhey Dollesin, the regional pastoral officer of PRO 8.

In his homily, Dollesin highlighted the sanctity of marriage, encouraging the couples to reflect on the essence of matrimony as a path to a lifelong union and commitment to their soulmates.

“Draw strength and purpose from the family you build. Commit to something greater than yourselves and create a marriage that fosters growth and prosperity. Ang kasal ay tanggulan ng lakas mo, at ito’y pagbabasbas mula sa Diyos at hindi lang isang kapirasong papel,” he said.

“To our newlyweds, may your love for each other grow stronger with each passing day. Make God the center of your unity and let Him guide you on this journey of love and commitment,” he added.

The “Kasalang Pulis sa Rehiyon Otso” is a yearly mass wedding ceremony held twice each year since February 2022.

It was initiated by Marbil during his tenure as the police regional director of PRO 8, stemming from his desire to provide PRO 8 personnel with the blessing of matrimony.

Meanwhile, a traditional reception was held at the RTR Medical Foundation College Gymnasium which included the grand entrance of the newlyweds, wedding rituals (cake slicing, parade of wines, wine toasting), and a same-day edit audio-visual presentation.

Lesson to learn

0

One of the eagerly anticipated nightly events in the recently concluded Tacloban City fiesta nearly turned into a tragic incident, leaving an important lesson for future celebrations. The occasion drew an overwhelming crowd eager to see their beloved celebrities, almost resulting in a deadly stampede. This incident exhibited the need for improved planning and venue selection to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attendees. Thus, the organizers and authorities must heed this lesson to prevent such dangers from recurring in future events.

The massive turnout of visitors and tourists during Tacloban’s fiesta was expected, given the city’s rich cultural allure and the popularity of the invited celebrities. However, the chosen venue was insufficient to handle the sheer volume of attendees. The lack of space and inadequate crowd control measures became alarmingly apparent as the crowd surged. This situation not only threatened the safety of the attendees but also showed a significant oversight in the event’s planning process.

To prevent future incidents, organizers must choose larger and more spacious venues for events anticipated to draw significant crowds. Such venues should have ample room to accommodate attendees comfortably, with clear pathways for movement and evacuation if necessary. Additionally, having designated areas for authorities and security personnel to monitor and manage the crowd is crucial. This approach will help ensure that safety protocols are effectively enforced, reducing the risk of chaos and injury.

If larger venues are unavailable, organizers must reconsider inviting celebrities who are known to attract massive crowds. The safety of the attendees should always take precedence over the allure of star power. Limiting the scale of such events or opting for celebrities with a more manageable following can significantly mitigate the risk of overcrowding. This strategy may not be popular, but it is a necessary compromise to safeguard the well-being of the community.

Bear in mind that a massive, uncontrolled crowd poses a significant risk, especially to the most vulnerable individuals such as children, the elderly, and those with physical limitations. The near-stampede in Tacloban serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers inherent in poorly managed events. Authorities and event organizers should prioritize safety and make informed decisions that balance excitement with responsibility. This requires meticulous planning and prudent choices to ensure that future celebrations remain secure for everyone involved.

In today’s fast-paced and tech-driven world, there is no shortage of money-making opportunities available to individuals looking to diversify their income streams or pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. The spectrum of money-making schemes is vast and varied, catering to a wide range of skills, interests, and financial capacities. While the potential for financial gain is enticing, individuals should approach these opportunities with a critical eye and a strategic mindset to ensure long-term success and sustainability.

The rise of the gig economy has opened up a plethora of online freelancing opportunities, allowing individuals to secure projects and assignments from clients worldwide. Platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer have made it easier than ever for freelancers to connect with potential clients and build a sustainable income stream. However, the freelance market is highly competitive, and success often hinges on one’s ability to market themselves effectively, deliver high-quality work, and maintain a stellar reputation.

Affiliate marketing has also emerged as a popular money-making scheme, enabling individuals to earn commissions by promoting products or services through their online platforms. While affiliate marketing can be lucrative, success in this field requires a solid understanding of digital marketing strategies, content creation, and audience engagement. Moreover, the ever-evolving landscape of online marketing and search engine algorithms poses challenges that affiliate marketers must run through to stay relevant and competitive.

For individuals with specialized knowledge or expertise in a particular field, offering online courses or consulting services can be a profitable venture. By creating and selling digital courses or providing consulting services to clients, individuals can monetize their skills and knowledge while helping others achieve their goals. However, success in this arena requires more than just subject matter expertise; effective marketing, course design, and client management skills are essential to attract and retain customers in a competitive market.

Entrepreneurship in e-commerce is another avenue for individuals seeking to generate income and build a sustainable business. With the proliferation of online marketplaces and e-commerce platforms, starting an online store has never been more accessible. But running a successful e-commerce business entails strategic product sourcing, effective marketing, and seamless logistics management to stand out in a crowded marketplace and drive sales. Moreover, staying attuned to consumer trends and preferences is crucial for long-term growth and sustainability in the e-commerce industry.

Real estate investments offer another avenue for individuals to generate passive income and build long-term wealth. Whether through rental properties, fix-and-flip projects, or real estate crowdfunding, investing in real estate can provide steady cash flow and appreciation potential over time. Real estate investing, though, comes with its own set of risks and challenges, including market fluctuations, property maintenance costs, and tenant management issues. To succeed in real estate investing, individuals must conduct thorough market research, assess risk factors, and develop a sound investment strategy tailored to their financial goals and risk tolerance.

Investing in the stock market is a tried-and-true method for individuals to grow their wealth and achieve financial goals. By purchasing shares of publicly traded companies or investing in diversified funds, individuals can benefit from capital appreciation, dividend income, and portfolio diversification. It’s just that stock market investing carries inherent risks, including market volatility, economic uncertainties, and individual stock performance. To explore the complexities of the stock market successfully, individuals must educate themselves on investment principles, conduct thorough research, and adopt a disciplined approach to managing their investment portfolio.

On the social media front, becoming a social media influencer has emerged as a popular money-making scheme for individuals with a strong online following and engaging content. Influencers can monetize their platforms through brand partnerships, sponsored content, and affiliate marketing, using their influence to drive sales and generate income. But then again, the influencer landscape is highly competitive, with changing algorithms and evolving audience preferences posing challenges to influencers seeking long-term success and sustainability. Building a loyal and engaged audience, creating authentic content, and staying abreast of social media trends are essential for influencers looking to monetize their online presence effectively.

The diverse array of money-making schemes available today presents individuals with ample opportunities to generate income, build wealth, and pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations. Whether through online freelancing, affiliate marketing, e-commerce ventures, real estate investments, or other avenues, individuals can utilize their skills, knowledge, and resources to create multiple income streams and secure their financial future. Success in these money-making schemes requires diligence, creativity, and adaptability to address the challenges and uncertainties of the modern economy. With a willingness to learn and grow, and a commitment to ethical business practices, individuals can unlock their earning potential and achieve sustainable long-term growth in the ever-evolving landscape of money-making schemes.
