TACLOBAN CITY – The mayor of Carigara, Leyte assured the members of the LGBTQIA+ community of his support to them.

Mayor Eduardo Ong, Jr. made this commitment during the town’s Pride Month celebration on June 30 which served as the initial salvo of the town’s 428th fiesta celebration on July 16.

“This year, we will continue to promote inclusivity, love, and we are going to continue showing our support to the LGBTQ community,” he said.

Ong assured the LGBTQIA+ members that despite some opposition coming from some sectors, his support for the community will remain firm.

“This event is a reminder that someone out there loves you, supports you. This is a statement of how we’ve come, showing our strength in numbers,” he stressed.

The town mayor added that showing support to the members of the LGBTQ+ community does need to be at the same level of their gender preference but anyone could be an ally for as long as they know how to show respect.

This is the second time that the municipality hosted a Pride Month celebration since 2022.
The local government also provided a space at the municipal hall grounds for LGBTQ members who have businesses to sell their products.

TACLOBAN CITY– A P43.29 million preventive maintenance project along the Dulag-Julita-Burauen road section has been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Leyte Second District Engineering Office (L2DEO) under its Asset Preservation Program.

District Engineer Leo Edward Oppura said that the intermittent road portions in Barangay Combis to San Vicente in Dulag have been re-blocked to restore the road quality and are necessary before the application of asphalt to prolong and avoid future cracks causing bumpy rides for motorists and riders.

A total of 1.977 kilometers in 10.1 meters of width were applied to the pavement with the provision of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings to ensure the safety of motorists as well as pedestrians, especially at night.

DPWH implements a preventive maintenance project to help prolong the service life of roads by minimizing premature deterioration of pavement brought on by the passage of heavy vehicles, and completion of the project will improve vehicular traffic flow along the Dulag-Julita-Burauen road section, a tertiary road.

It also enhances the surface ability of the road, allowing for smoother and faster access to schools, healthcare facilities, government centers, and other public and private establishments in the area.

For CY 2023, L2DEO implemented ten preventive maintenance projects, of which five have been completed.

A crucial decision

DOMS PAGLIAWAN

As globalization continues to reshape the world, individuals are faced with the decision of whether to work abroad or remain in their home country. This complex choice demands careful consideration, taking into account personal, professional, and societal factors. The decision to work abroad requires a higher level of understanding and intelligence as it involves stepping out of one’s comfort zone and navigating unfamiliar territories.

One key aspect to consider when deciding to work abroad is the potential for professional growth and career advancement. Working in another country often provides exposure to new industries, work cultures, and innovative ideas. This can broaden one’s skill set, increase knowledge in specific fields, and enhance professional networks. A determined worker, equipped with a higher level of intelligence and comprehension, has a greater capability to adapt and thrive in new and challenging environments, making the decision to work abroad an appealing option for career development.

Furthermore, individuals opting to work abroad may experience personal growth and self-discovery. Living in a foreign country presents opportunities to immerse oneself in diverse cultures, learn new languages, and build relationships with people from different backgrounds. This exposure leads to a broader understanding of the world, increased tolerance, and the ability to think critically. Educated applicants, who have already demonstrated intellectual rigor and analysis, are more likely to appreciate and benefit from the personal growth that working abroad offers.

However, there are also undeniable merits to working at home. An individual’s decision may be influenced by familial obligations, personal preferences, or existing professional networks. Staying in one’s home country allows for stability and familiarity, which can be comforting in a fast-paced globalized world. Moreover, working at home provides the opportunity to contribute directly to the local community and economy, thus potentially fostering a sense of pride and belonging.

The decision to work at home or abroad should also consider the impact on society. Graduates with advanced education possess the skills and knowledge needed to contribute positively to their home countries. By working locally, they can leverage their expertise to address societal challenges, contribute to local development, and create a positive impact on their communities. Their understanding of specific cultural, social, and economic contexts can benefit their home country in ways that may not be achievable if they were to work abroad.

The decision to work abroad or at home is a complex one that requires intelligence and comprehension. While working abroad offers professional and personal growth opportunities, working at home can provide stability and contribute to local communities. Educated and skilled workers have the necessary intellectual ability to navigate the potential challenges and benefits of both options. Ultimately, they must weigh their own aspirations, consider their societal impact, and make a decision that aligns with their goals and values.
