ORMOC CITY– A man was arrested and charged with theft after he was caught hiding grocery items inside his jacket in Biliran, Biliran on May 3 at about 10:50 am.

Biliran town police chief Capt. Hilario Rambano III identified the suspect as Jay Bernard Salidaga.

The suspect was caught putting grocery items valued at P2, 571 inside his jacket in an establishment located in Barangay San Roque.

It was learned that the suspect has been doing this illegal act several times already but it was only this time that he was caught in the act.

The suspect admitted to police his activity but said that he was forced to do so because of poverty.

But the local police said that the suspect was a member of a shoplifting group operating in the province.
