NSSDEO, Brgy. Burabud, Laoang, N. Samar-The Department of Public Works and Highways-Northern Samar Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-NSSDEO) employees conducted a coastal clean-up led by NSSDEO Rank-and-File Employees Association officers, last December 13, 2023, along the coastlines of Barangay 8, Pambujan, Northern Samar with the goal of marine conservation, community awareness, maintaining cleanliness, and strengthening the preservation of biodiversity.

The coastal clean-up activity was made possible through the active support of the Barangay Chairperson, Hon. Analiza Paguntalan of Barangay 8, Pambujan, Northern Samar.

The DPWH- NSSDEO rank and file employees collected various kinds of plastic trash and garbage scattered in the area to help the local community combat plastic pollution and keep the ocean clean.

Through this initiative, it will contribute to the country’s effort to be part of the global awareness to protect the ocean by reducing issues caused by various debris brought by the tide, local visitors, or tourists, wherein aquatic species and beach enthusiasts will be secured from debris. Hence, a greater biodiversity, healthier ecosystem, and clean beachfront will be attained.

Moreover, this activity aims to reduce marine toxic chemicals and other waste materials that would result to plastic pollution on marine species, wherein plastic is very harmful to the ocean and takes many years to decompose.

Eventually, the collected biodegradable and recyclable materials were segregated and disposed properly after on-site documentation.

NSSDEO top management, District Engineer Charlito S. Carlobos and Assistant District Engineer Atty. Arthur Eric L. Sabong, appreciated the collaborative efforts of the Rank-and-File Association officers and employees for joining the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) drive.
