TACLOBAN CITY — Some 3,712 vulnerable households in General MacArthur, Eastern Samar, are set to receive rice assistance under a P5-million food security program being implemented by the municipal government this year.
The Rice Security for Vulnerable Households Project for 2026 is funded through the Local Government Support Fund-Growth Equity Fund (LGSF-GEF) and is being implemented by the Office of the Municipal Mayor in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and the Municipal Agricultural Services.
Rice distribution is being carried out in three tranches during the second and third quarters of 2026 to help families facing economic difficulties meet their basic food needs.
The municipal government said beneficiaries were identified and validated using the Municipal Listahanan database and the updated MSWDO registry. Initial beneficiary lists submitted by the barangays were reviewed and verified by the MSWDO before the distribution.
The initiative forms part of the municipality’s efforts to strengthen food security and provide social protection to households considered vulnerable to economic pressures.
It also supports the local government’s ASENSO framework, which seeks to translate its development priorities into programs designed to improve the welfare, livelihood and resilience of residents.
The rice assistance is intended to provide immediate food support while helping vulnerable households cope with rising living costs and other economic challenge.
