TACLOBAN CITY – Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials in Naval, Biliran, will play a key role in the implementation of the municipal government’s Resiklo Program, Mayor Gretchen Espina announced.
The program encourages residents to exchange soft plastic waste for school supplies, clothes, and grocery items at the LGU-operated Resiklo Hub.
“The LGU will provide the hub and weighing scale, then turn it over to the SK. They will manage the operations since they have their own funds,” Mayor Espina said.
She added that involving SK officials in the program helps dispel the perception that youth leaders only implement non-sustainable projects.
“We want to erase the notion that SK projects are just about basketball tournaments. With this, they will take charge of solid waste management at the barangay level,” Espina explained.
The Resiklo Program is a waste-to-reward initiative that converts collected plastic waste into useful items such as armchairs for public schools, addressing both waste management and educational needs.
Just last week, the LGU turned over 30 newly manufactured Resiklo chairs to Naval National High School.
