TACLOBAN CITY — Local government officials and residents of Maripipi, Biliran were briefed on the use of the National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS), as the Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Statistical Services Office 8 (PSA RSSO 8) brought its information campaign to the island municipality.
The Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign was conducted at the Local Government Unit of Maripipi in observance of International Identity Day.
PSA registration officer and National ID regional focal person Marife Molon discussed the importance and benefits of the National ID and NIDAS, including how the system can be used to verify the authenticity of a National ID.
Molon also guided LGU officials, personnel and constituents on the proper use of NIDAS, emphasizing that reliable identity authentication can help streamline transactions and facilitate faster delivery of services.
She said the city government of Maasin in Southern Leyte was the first local government unit in Eastern Visayas to integrate NIDAS on June 24, 2025.
Ormoc City in Leyte and Laoang in Northern Samar have since successfully onboarded the system, while several other LGUs in the region have undergone orientation on its use, according to Molon.
The Maripipi activity also provided participants an opportunity to raise concerns, ask questions and gain a better understanding of the National ID system and its applications.
International Identity Day promotes awareness of the importance of legal identity and the need for inclusive and accessible identification systems.
In the Philippines, the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) provides citizens and resident aliens with a foundational identification that can be used in various public and private transactions.
The PSA said it continues to bring National ID information and related services closer to communities in Eastern Visayas as part of efforts to promote secure and reliable identity authentication and improve access to government services.
