30 days to go: As deadline looms, Globe urges customers to register their SIMs

0

Globe has renewed its call for still unregistered customers to comply with the SIM Registration Act with the July 25 extended deadline just a month away.
SIM registration, which is mandated by Republic Act (RA) 11934 or the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Law, is critical in maintaining the quality, integrity, and security of network services.

Registered subscribers will not only enjoy continued access to mobile and data services but also benefit from enhanced cybersecurity measures, reducing the likelihood of being targeted by cybercrime, particularly fraud.

Customers who fail to register their SIMs within the deadline will forfeit their existing load and promo registrations by July 31. Their SIMs will also be deactivated, which will impact day-to-day activities such as online payments, transport booking and deliveries, and access to mobile data for learning, earning and leisure, among others.

Globe Group President and CEO Ernest Cu emphasized the urgency of the registration.
“We strongly encourage all our subscribers who have yet to register their SIMs to do so before the July 25 deadline. Government has already given ample extension from the original deadline. We hope they finally comply,” Cu said.

“We reiterate that registering your SIMs will provide an added layer of protection against text scams and other forms of fraud. Registering your SIMs will be for your own benefit, and we’ve made it convenient to complete this step whether online or on site,” said Cu.
As of June 25, 53.85% of the total Globe mobile customer base, which includes active and inactive users, have registered.

To register, Globe Prepaid, TM and Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi customers may use the GlobeOne app and Globe’s SIM registration microsite https://new.globe.com.ph/simreg, which are available 24/7.

Those who have fully-verified GCash accounts may also register via the GCash app. Just follow the instructions after receiving a prompt to register their SIMs, and they will get 1GB of free data upon successful registration.

Globe Postpaid and Platinum subscribers, meanwhile, have already been included in the SIM registration database.

For company-owned Globe Business prepaid accounts, steps to register or update details have been sent to your company’s authorized representative. Globe Business postpaid accounts have also been included in the SIM registration database.

For subscribers who require in-person assistance, Globe has set up registration help desks in all Globe Stores and EasyHubs nationwide. Trained staff are readily available to guide customers through the process and answer any queries.

Globe has been proactive in spreading awareness and providing education about the benefits of SIM registration. Various campaigns and customer outreach initiatives are in place to encourage subscribers to meet the deadline.

“Globe is committed to providing the best experience for all subscribers. As the deadline approaches, we want to ensure that everyone continues to enjoy our services without interruption. Together, let’s make our digital world safer and more reliable,” said Cu.

DepEd supports GeoSkwela project of EDC

The Department of Education (DepEd) Ormoc City and Kananga Divisions is fully supporting the GeoSkwela project of First Gen-owned renewable energy leader Energy Development Corporation (EDC), which aims to provide more valuable information on the importance of renewable energy to K12 students.

DepEd Schools Division Superintendent of Leyte Dr. Mariza Magan, Ed. DCESO V lauded EDC for the GeoSkwela project that was formally launched on Friday at the PARES Function Hall, Ormoc City.

“EDC has been our partner in education since I joined DepEd years back. I really appreciate the undertaking of EDC to ensure environmental stewardship perfectly aligns with DepEd’s vision of caring for the environment.”

Dubbed as GeoSkwela, the online platform is a supplementary learning website that seeks to help teachers discuss difficult Science topics such as energy transformation, sources, generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as the environmental impacts of energy generation.

“EDC officially launched the GeoSkwela learning management system (LMS) portal and conducted a one-day training on its use and features, with the help of our resource speakers from the Knowledge Community. Through this site, the teachers can download reference materials, sample quizzes, experiments, and other activities that will help them comprehensively explain what energy is, how it works, and what its effects on the environment are,” explained Erwin Magallanes, Head of EDC’s Corporate Relations Department in Leyte.

He added that the site may help teachers create lesson plans for both face-to-face and online learning classes. “The contents of the online platform are aligned with the Science Curriculum of the Department of Education (DepEd) for Grades 6, 9, and 11,” Magallanes emphasized.

Aside from the GeoSkwela site, EDC also prepared printed materials or visual aids like booklets that were distributed to nine schools in the DepEd Division of Ormoc City and Kananga. The beneficiary schools include Tongonan in both divisions, Milagro, Lim-ao, Lake Danao, Cabintan Elementary Schools, and Pedro D Banez, Cabintan, and Lim-ao National High Schools.

Magallanes expressed his appreciation for the support of the DepEd in EDC’s advocacy. “We are grateful for the full support and commitment of the education department from the two divisions that we have been working with including our other CSR programs not only for SIKAT education activities but also for environment-related initiatives.”

“We also understand the challenge of Internet connectivity in some schools, this is why we also prepared booklets with five modules per grade level. These good-quality booklets are meant to be used by the students enrolled in the current school year and by the next batch of enrollees,” said Magallanes.

The launch event likewise emphasizes the importance of becoming regenerative by striving to do more good for the planet and society, which is what EDC’s revitalized mission to forge collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future is all about.

For EDC, being sustainable means doing less harm to our planet, while being regenerative means restoring it and making it better. The company believes that inspiring the youth to move forward and go beyond sustainability for a livable planet and a better tomorrow must start today.

EDC is First Gen Corporation’s 100 percent renewable energy subsidiary with over 1,480MW total installed capacity that accounts for 20 percent of the country’s total installed renewable energy capacity. Its almost 1,200MW geothermal portfolio comprises 62 percent of the country’s total installed geothermal capacity and has put the Philippines on the map as the 3rd largest geothermal producer in the world.(PR)

The E.Samar guv maintain stand as anti-mining advocate

TACLOBAN CITY– Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone denied that he has issued a mining permit in Homonhon, Guiuan town.

Evardone, in a statement he issued on Tuesday (June 27), made the denial after posts circulated in the social media that he has approved a mining permit to an unnamed company to conduct mining operations in Homonhon, a mine-rich and historic island where Ferdinand Magellan landed in 1521.

“I have no authority to issue a mining permit. It is only the Department of Environment and Natural Resources which is authorized to issue permit to large-scale mining operations like in Homonhon,” the governor said in a statement.

In the same statement, Evardone stressed that while he is against mining, he still prefers ‘responsible mining’ by ‘strictly observe all mining, environmental and social protection laws.’

“If these companies cannot comply with all of these, DENR should stop their operations,” Evardone said.

He also noted that the mining companies that are operating in Homonhon are not paying their taxes to the provincial government, not transparent, and are not providing any form of social protection to the people and the environment.

TACLOBAN CITY– Former Miss Universe and national director of the Miss Universe Philippines Shamcey Supsup Lee graced the launching of the MU-PH Leyte on Sunday (June 25) which will be responsible for conducting a province wide search whose winner will be Leyte’s official candidate for the said beauty pageant.

Lee, who placed third runner-up during the 2011 Miss Universe, said that she is happy that there is now an organization in Leyte that will be responsible for sending a candidate at the national level.

The B creative productions was given the right to stage the Miss Universe Philippines Leyte which the organizer hopes to conduct in September of this year.

According to the beauty queen, with the holding of a provincewide search, local girls who aspire to join the Miss Universe Philippines need not go to Manila.

She noted that joining a national beauty pageant like the Miss Universe Philippines need not only courage but also resources considering the huge cost it entails.

“It takes a lot of courage and resources to come to Manila just to join the Miss Universe Philippines and it’s very intimidating,” she said in a press conference held in one of the hotels here.

“(With the holding of the Miss Universe Philippines Leyte), this will help them realize their dreams to become a candidate for the Miss Universe Philippines,” she added.

And this is the very purpose why they have decided to come up with a provincewide search, Clarito Logronio, whose group was awarded as the franchise holder of the prestigious beauty competition, said in the same press conference.

“We will help our candidates all the way,” he said.

Logronio added that the search could also help promote Leyte’s tourism industry at the national level with the candidate carrying the name of Leyte.

According to him, aside from the cash prize, the winner will have the distinction of representing Leyte at the said national beauty pageant.

A candidate who did not win the Leyte-based pageant would not be allowed to join the Miss Philippines-Universe at the national.

However, a candidate who is not from Leyte but traces her roots to the province would be allowed to join the contest.

Those who are eligible to join the beauty pageant are those aged 18 up to 26, mothers and transgenders.

The launching of the Miss Universe Philippines Leyte came on the heels of the holding of several local beauty pageants in Leyte.

On Saturday night, the Miss Tacloban beauty search was held with the 23-year old Angela Bucu besting 14 other candidates during the coronation held at the Tacloban City Astrodome.

In Ormoc City, Shaana Morata, 19, was crowned as this year’s Miss Ormoc, defeating 19 other candidates during the pageant night held on Friday (June 23).
