TACLOBAN CITY — A P12.2-million road concreting project is underway in Barangay Alahag, Jaro, Leyte, aimed at improving access to agricultural areas and essential services while making travel safer for residents.
The Department of Public Works and Highways Leyte 2nd District Engineering Office (DPWH-L2DEO) is constructing a 1.9-kilometer Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) road to replace the existing roadway.
The project, funded under the 2026 General Appropriations Act, has a total contract amount of PHP12,208,893.68 and is being implemented by Fizand Construction.
Construction began on July 30, 2026, and is currently progressing toward completion.
Once completed, the improved road is expected to facilitate the transport of residents and agricultural products and provide easier access to schools, markets, health facilities, government offices and other essential destinations.
Reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings will also be installed after the concrete pavement is completed to improve road visibility and lane delineation, particularly at night and during adverse weather conditions.
The project is also expected to improve connectivity between Alahag and nearby communities and municipalities, including Alangalang.
The DPWH said improved road connectivity could help strengthen community linkages and support local economic activities by making the movement of people, goods and agricultural products more efficient.
