TACLOBAN CITY – Seventeen families from the Mamanwa Tribe in Almeria, Biliran, who were among those affected by Typhoon ‘Opong’, received much-needed relief assistance from the national government.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed 87 family food packs to the indigenous community in Sitio Palayan, Barangay Caucab, with the support of the Philippine Army in transporting the aid to the upland area.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) also extended relief to the tribe, delivering sacks of rice with the help of the Tactical Operations Group 8 (TOG8) of the Philippine Air Force, which airlifted the supplies to the remote site.

Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council chairperson and OCD-8 Regional Director Lord Byron Torrecarion personally led the distribution.

Torrecarion said the assistance was not only about meeting food needs but also about providing renewed hope for families still recovering from the typhoon’s devastation. He added that the effort reflects the government’s compassion and commitment to ensure aid reaches even the most isolated communities.
