
TACLOBAN CITY – Leyte Samar Daily Express (LSDE), the oldest and longest-running newspaper in Eastern Visayas, was named Best Online News Site at the Pagdasig 2025: Communications Students’ Choice Awards, held at Leyte Normal University (LNU) in Tacloban City.
LSDE led 32 media organizations and journalists from both the regional and national levels recognized for excellence in journalism and media influence, particularly among today’s generation of Communication students.
The annual Pagdasig Awards, now on its fourth year and held on May 9, is a collaborative initiative of LNU, the Asian Development Foundation College (ADFC), and the University of the Philippines Tacloban College (UPTC), which all offer Communication programs. It was launched in 2021 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Graydelle Jane Cahayag, president of LNU’s BA Communication Student Organization, emphasized that the event “aims to celebrate and recognize media personalities and platforms who have significantly inspired, informed, and influenced today’s Communication students.”
Among this year’s awardees include, in the regional level,: best radio news program: Good Morning Philippines (Bombo Radyo Tacloban); best radio station: 91.1 Love Radio Tacloban; best radio reporter (Male): Ioannes Omang (DYVL Aksyon Radyo); best radio reporter (Female): Niña Rose Magpili (Bombo Radyo Tacloban); best radio news anchor (Male): Roben Mathew Monteza (Bombo Radyo Tacloban); and best radio news anchor (Female): Florence Dableo (RMN Tacloban)
In the television category, best TV News Program: Balitang Bisdak (GMA Regional TV); best TV Station: GMA Regional TV; best TV news anchor (male): Alan Domingo (GMA Regional TV); best TV News Anchor (female): Cecille Quibod-Castro (GMA Regional TV); best TV Reporter (Male): Nikko Sereno (GMA Regional TV); best TV Reporter (Female): Lou-Anne Mae Rondina (GMA Regional TV); best online news site: Leyte Samar Daily Express; best online news writer (Male): Ronald Reyes (SunStar Philippines); and best online news writer (Female): Juvelyn Rancudo (Bombo Radyo Tacloban).
