TACLOBAN CITY– Authorities have launched a full investigation into the shooting of a barangay captain and his driver in Barangay Tabgas, Albuera town, Leyte on Saturday, August 2, 2025, as they traveled from Ormoc City.
Colonel Dionisio Apas Jr., director of the Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO), condemned the attack and assured the public that “all investigative efforts are being undertaken to establish the motive, identify the suspects, and ensure that justice is served.”
“We condemn this act of violence in the strongest terms. LPPO will pursue every lead to ensure those responsible are identified and brought to justice,” Apas said in a statement.
The victims, identified only by aliases “Toto,” 41, the barangay captain, and “Jojo,” 21, his driver, were on board a white Ford Ranger when unidentified suspects opened fire on them from the roadside using firearms of unknown caliber.
Both men sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Their current medical condition has not been disclosed.
Police said a witness has come forward and reported seeing the gunmen flee the scene aboard a black motorcycle immediately after the shooting.
A dragnet operation has since been launched in coordination with nearby police stations in a bid to locate and apprehend the suspects.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish a motive and collect further evidence.
