ORMOC CITY-A fire suspected to have originated from faulty electrical wiring burned down a two-story classroom building around 7:30 pm on Sunday (March 24) at the Saint Felomina National High School situated in Barangay Cangag, Isabel, Leyte.

This school, erected during the tenure of the late Mayor Saturnino Medina Jr., serves as a clustered senior high school catering to students from four barangays in the town, namely Putingbato, Consolacion, Can-andan, and Cangag.

Upon receiving the report of the fire around 7:35 pm, the local Bureau of Fire Protection swiftly responded to the scene.

By the time firefighters arrived, the blaze had already engulfed the entire building.
An initial investigation conducted by FO1 Rhea Mae Jaca, through interviews with local residents near the school premises, revealed that they heard a blast emanating from the school.

Shortly thereafter, a fire erupted in the stockroom located on the building’s second floor.
FO1 Jaca reported that the fire spread to the adjacent room, where computers and spare parts were stored, reducing everything inside to ashes.

She further noted that while the building structures primarily consisted of concrete, some lighter materials were also used.

The local fire bureau indicated that one individual sustained injuries due to the fire, and the estimated damage was approximately P500, 000.
