ORMOC CITY – A 30-year-old farmer was wounded after he was shot by an unidentified assailant in Barangay Tongonan, here, on the evening of July 30, prompting police to launch a manhunt for the suspect.
The victim, identified only by the alias “Ler,” sustained injuries in the attack that occurred at around 8 p.m. in Purok 6, Campsite, according to the Ormoc City Police Station 5 (OCPS5).
Police said they responded to the area after receiving a report from a concerned citizen. However, by the time officers arrived, the crime scene had already been disturbed by residents, and the victim had been taken to Gatchalian Medical Center by a barangay kagawad aboard a barangay ambulance for emergency treatment.
Initial investigation showed that the victim had previously been imprisoned in connection with a theft case filed by the Energy Development Corporation (EDC), although police have not established whether the previous case was linked to the shooting.
Authorities have identified a person of interest, known only by the alias “Rod,” but have withheld further details as the investigation continues.
Police are conducting follow-up operations and a hot pursuit to locate the suspect while investigators work to establish the motive behind the attack and gather additional evidence.
The investigation remains ongoing.
