Catarman N. Samar– To help ease farmers’ burden in transporting agricultural products, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Northern Samar 1st District Engineering Office has commenced the construction of a farm-to-market road connecting Barangays Cag-abaca and San Julian in Catarman, Northern Samar.

The project involves the concreting of a two-lane road with a total length of 625-meters, thickness of 0.23-meter, and a width of 3.5 meters. Additional works also include excavation, embankment construction, installation of grouted riprap, stone masonry and structural concrete.

“This project will enable faster and more efficient delivery of farm products to market centers, reduce transportation costs thereby improving agricultural productivity and increase income opportunities for farmers in the area,” said District Engineer Alvin A. Ignacio.

In an interview, Mr. Nolie D. Galosa, a local farmer, expressed his appreciation for the project.

“It has long been our dream to have a concrete road here, so we’re truly grateful for this project. Before, it was very difficult to transport our copra because the road was unpaved.
Now, we’re thankful, transporting our copra will be much easier, we will no longer struggle with loading and hauling it.” he stated.

The said project is implemented in convergence with the Department of Agriculture with a total allocation of Php 19.84-Million.
