TACLOBAN CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Eastern Visayas has reopened the Biliran Bridge to light and medium vehicles following safety inspections, but only within the allowable load limits to ensure the structure’s continued stability.

In a public advisory issued Tuesday evening, the DPWH–Biliran District Engineering Office said the reopening came after a series of inspection and safety assessments conducted to evaluate the bridge’s structural integrity.

Under the new guidelines, trucks with two or three axles may cross with a maximum gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 7,500 kilograms, while semi-trailers with five axles (18 wheels) are allowed up to 18,000 kilograms.

The DPWH strictly prohibits overloaded vehicles and heavy equipment that exceed these limits, warning that such violations could compromise the safety of motorists and further damage the bridge.

To maintain smooth and safe traffic flow, the agency also reminded drivers to follow these safety measures:

Only one vehicle is allowed to pass on the bridge at a time; vehicles must stay at the center of the bridge while crossing; and changing gears or stopping while on the bridge span is strictly prohibited.

DPWH Biliran DEO thanked the public for its cooperation and urged continued compliance with the guidelines to ensure the safety of all road users.
