TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – 8 has turned over a P1 million livelihood assistance to a farmers’ association in Hilongos, Leyte to support a sustainable egg production enterprise.
The assistance, consisting of an egg layering project under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), was awarded to the 34-member Sta. Margarita Integrated Farm Tillers Association in Barangay Sta. Margarita on July 21.
The project aims to provide the association with a sustainable source of income through egg production while creating long-term employment opportunities for its members.
DOLE West Leyte Field Office Livelihood Development Specialist Crispo Pido led the turnover ceremony together with Hilongos Sangguniang Bayan Member Manuel Lora and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Giovanni Olo.
Lora urged the beneficiaries to maximize the assistance by managing the project responsibly to ensure its long-term success.
Olo, meanwhile, highlighted the importance of collaboration among government agencies, the local government unit, and people’s organizations in sustaining livelihood initiatives.
The egg layering project forms part of the DILP, which seeks to improve the income-generating capacities of workers, marginalized sectors, and community organizations through community-based livelihood assistance.
DOLE said it will continue to provide technical guidance and monitoring to help ensure the sustainability of the project and strengthen the association’s capacity to operate the enterprise.
