
ORMOC CITY – A newborn baby girl was found abandoned inside a roadside kiosk in Barangay Hugpa East, Burauen, Leyte, early Friday morning, July 31, prompting police to launch an investigation to identify her parents.
According to the Burauen Municipal Police Station (MPS), the infant was discovered at around 6 a.m. by a 58-year-old resident identified only as “Noel.”
Police said Noel was riding his motorcycle when he noticed something inside the roadside kiosk. Upon checking, he found the newborn baby girl and immediately reported the incident to barangay officials, who alerted the police.
Responding officers verified the report, while personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) transported the infant to the Burauen Rural Health Unit (RHU) for medical evaluation and proper care.
The newborn remains under the custody of health authorities as police continue an investigation to identify her parent or parents and determine the circumstances behind her abandonment.
