TACLOBAN CITY — Nearly a hundred elderly residents in Borongan City were granted financial assistance from the national government as part of efforts to recognize senior citizens reaching milestone ages.

A total of 97 beneficiaries, composed of octogenarians and nonagenarians from various barangays, each received P10,000 during a distribution activity held on March 26 at the City Hall lobby. The recipients included those who turned 80, 85, 90, and 95 between September and December 2025.

The cash incentives were provided under the Expanded Centenarians Act or Republic Act No. 11982, and implemented through the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC), which aims to support and honor elderly Filipinos.

The distribution was facilitated by the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) led by Virginia Buna, in coordination with NCSC Region VIII and local senior citizen leaders.
City officials and representatives also attended the activity, including Romeo Alexis Devora, who represented Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda. Hazel Ribong and Gilda Rodeles were likewise present during the distribution.

Local authorities said the initiative highlights the government’s continuing commitment to recognizing the contributions of senior citizens and promoting their welfare through financial support programs.
