TACLOBAN CITY-Two alleged members of the Special Partisan Unit (Sparu) of the New People’s Army, along with two other civilians, were killed during two separate encounters in Sulat, Eastern Samar on August 16.
Authorities said the first shooting happened at around 3:00 pm at the cockpit arena of Barangay Maglipay in the said town.
The alleged Sparu members engaged to a firefight against two civilians identified as Juancho Basada, former member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit(Cafgu), and Winifredo Guballo, both residents of Barangay Baybay in the said town.
The encounter resulted to the immediate death of one of the Sparu and the wounding of the two civilians who were brought to the nearest hospital but were declared dead by the attending physicians afterwards, according to the police report.
Army personnel and policemen from Sulat Municipal Station led Lieutenant Antonico Docena, who conducted a hot pursuit operation against the other fleeing Sparu, also killed the latter after engaging in a firefight.
Police are investigating the incident.
