TACLOBAN CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office reported that over 3,700 houses were damaged across Eastern Visayas following the onslaught of Typhoons Uwan and Tino, forcing hundreds of families to remain in evacuation centers.

As of the latest monitoring, the DSWD said a total of 226 houses were totally damaged, while 3,490 others sustained partial damage in various areas affected by the twin weather disturbances.
For Super Typhoon Uwan, the regional office recorded 661 families or 2,359 individuals currently staying in evacuation centers (ECs) across the region. These include one family in Biliran, 105 families in Leyte, and 555 families in Northern Samar.
A total of 32 evacuation centers remain open to accommodate them.
Meanwhile, for Typhoon Tino, at least 223 families or 851 individuals are still taking shelter in evacuation centers as their homes were destroyed. Of these, 39 families are from Leyte, 22 from Northern Samar, and 162 from Southern Leyte.
DSWD said 24 evacuation centers remain operational for affected families.
The agency said that those still staying in evacuation centers are expected to remain there temporarily as local governments continue to assess the extent of damage and begin recovery operations.
Relief efforts, including the distribution of family food packs and non-food items, are ongoing in coordination with concerned local government units.
Super Typhoon Uwan and Typhoon Tino battered parts of Eastern Visayas last week, bringing heavy rains and strong winds that triggered flooding, landslides, and widespread power interruptions in the region.
