ORMOC CITY – A 29-year-old resident of Barugo, Leyte voluntarily surrendered a parcel containing suspected marijuana and marijuana-laced brownies to local police on Wednesday evening, August 27, 2025.

Police identified the man only as alias “Niño,” a helper from Sitio Tayud, Barangay Amahit.
According to investigators, the package was delivered earlier in the day by a courier and received by Niño’s mother-in-law. Thinking it was an item he had ordered, Niño opened the parcel after arriving home and discovered a brick of suspected dried marijuana leaves wrapped in bubble wrap, along with two brownies. The parcel was labeled under the name “Intoy Pulma” of Proper Amahit, Barugo.

Niño promptly turned over the items to the Barugo Municipal Police Station.

An inventory, witnessed by Barangay leader Earl Patrick Alberca confirmed the seized items: one brick of suspected dried marijuana weighing about 250 grams with an estimated value of P30,000, two brownies, a parcel bag, a carton box, and bubble wrap.

The suspected marijuana and brownies were sent to the Regional Forensic Unit 8 for laboratory analysis, while the packaging materials remain in police custody.

Authorities commended Niño for his cooperation, stressing that public vigilance and community support are crucial in the fight against illegal drugs.
