TACLOBAN CITY – Eastern Visayas’ very own Cuatro Islas Protected Landscape and Seascape (CIPLS) is making waves nationally after being named the lone finalist from the Visayas in the prestigious Para El MAR (For the Seas) 2025 Awards.

The CIPLS, which entered under the Outstanding National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) MPA Category, said it is thrilled to showcase its sustainable tourism, vibrant marine life, and strong community partnerships on the national stage.

“This milestone gives us a chance to share CIPLS’ best practices—from eco-tourism to scientific research and active stakeholder involvement,” the Protected Area Management Board said in a statement.

The Para El MAR Awards, set for September 16–19 in Iloilo City, recognize the country’s best-managed marine protected areas.

Organized by the Marine Protected Area Support Network with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and other partners, the biennial program highlights excellence in marine conservation and community engagement.

Located in the fifth district of Leyte, Cuatro Islas—comprising Apid, Digyo, Mahaba, and Himokilan Islands—has become a favorite among local and foreign tourists for its pristine beaches, colorful reefs, and growing cruise ship stopovers.
